Do you love working with plants and developing your skills at food forest design, biochar production, and plant propagation? Florida Edible Landscaping, a local Estero-based company, has expanded to provide for up to 3 internship positions each semester. Ideal candidates are highly motivated and dedicated to developing skills for project management, systems design, and the task of growing food for their Southwest Florida community. This professional internship has two parts, which would lead qualified and dedicated individuals to promising opportunities after completion of the program.
Edible Landscaping Internship Part 1 : Grasshopper
JOB TYPE: Part Time short term internship ( 150 hours per semester)
LOCATION: Florida Edible Landscaping office and nursery, several field trip locations in Collier and Lee County

SUPERVISOR/MANAGER: Erica Klopf
MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Complete introductory field trips, assignments, and presentations. Display mastery of nomenclature, area of origin, and growing conditions of identified plants. Be able to articulately discuss ecosystem succession and how it relates to food forest design.
- Learn to use google sketchup and photoshop in order to complete landscape design
- Learn propagation techniques and show mastery through nursery work
- Learn to make biochar and show mastery through biochar production on-site
- Learn to grow vegetables and show mastery though participation in FEL demonstration garden
- Learn to care for perennial vegetables and fruit trees though caring for FEL demonstration gardens
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Qualifications:
- Permaculture Design Certification or at least part 1 of the FGCU Course
- Be enrolled in a degree program of a related field
- Preferably enrolled in a 3-credit internship course or planning on this course in the near future

- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Organized and able to meet deadlines
- Self-motivated to complete field trips and assignments
- Ability to tolerate working outside in the heat

LOCATION: Florida Edible Landscaping office and nursery, client yards in Collier and Lee County, potential distance experience in Florida Keys or other areas through the State.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend client interviews
- Perform basic tasks in google sketchup and photoshop
- Perform nursery tasks and maintenance
- Make biochar
- Manage worm bins and worm tea production
- Manage FEL demonstration garden
- Learn plant installation and participate in installation projects in Collier and Lee County
- Develop professional skills as you interact with clients
- Optional experience volunteering at permaculture sites in the Florida Keys or other parts of Florida
